Lesnar Potentially Facing Rollins at Battleground for Title Rematch

So, the secret is out; former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar is scheduled to return to WWE TV on June 22nd. However, one thing everyone is unsure of is why he’s coming back so soon… until now. According to the Wrestling Observer, the reason for bringing in Lesnar is to fix the low ratings on Raw.

This past Monday’s episode of Raw only managed to draw in 2.54 cable TV rating, the lowest rating on Raw since the late 1990’s. Wait, wasn’t that the beloved Attitude Era? Either way, it’s not hard to see why the interest in Raw has dropped.

WWE originally planned for Lesnar to face off against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, in a rematch for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, plans have changed; Triple H has now been named as Rollins’ SummerSlam opponent, in a surprising and unwanted twist. Lesnar will now be expected to face Rollins at Battleground in July.

The reason for this change in circumstance may partially be in response to the Raw ratings, but it might also be in conjunction with WWE’s long-term booking for WrestleMania 32, soon to be known amongst The Suplah as WrestleMania Star: Triple H and The Rock is scheduled for that show. Obviously, that angle is seen as a bigger deal than Rollins vs Triple H, so the angle between the latter is now scheduled happen before that rivalry starts up.

However, should Rollins work with Triple H at SummerSlam, Lesnar is without an opponent; names slated to face Lesnar at that event include Randy Orton, as there has been talk of those two facing each other at some point relatively soon.

According to the Observer, it’s expected that Lesnar will be featured frequently on WWE television in the run-up to his matches on PPV. In addition to the planned Brock Lesnar vs Kofi Kingston match scheduled for the WWE’s Japan tour, this gives Lesnar plenty of material for television and house shows for the later half of 2015. With that in mind, it’s best to prepare for the new chapter in Brock Lesnar’s WWE career.
