Complete Primer for NXT TakeOver: Toronto

We too are embarking to Canada! Not for the same reasons as everyone else, mind. NXT TakeOver adds another location to their list, broadcasting from Toronto, Ontario, with an impressive card to say the least. Before NXT takes over Canada, the Suplah will be there! Discussing the card, build, and having fun with fans, it’s sure to be a polite time with no arguments at all. Join us at 8p GMT/3p EST, LIVE on YouTube, as we take over the north!

Several heated rivalries will see their end tonight, as will the second-annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic… but what might have I missed in the build, you might be wondering? Look no further than this complete primer for the event, right here!

Bobby Roode vs Tye Dillinger – Singles Match

When the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was first announced, everyone was excited to see what fresh teams we’d have competing in the tournament this year. With various odd couple pairings filling in the gaps, one “perfect” match came about in the team of “Glorious” Bobby Roode, and the “Perfect Ten” Tye Dillinger.

Flash forward to their first round match against the debuting SAnitY, wherein Dillinger gets his shit handed to him on a silver platter, with Roode deserting his partner in the climax of the match. Dillinger is out for revenge, getting the upper hand on Roode after the latter feigned innocence.

The ultimate showdown in Toronto is about to begin, and who better than two people close to/not far from Toronto itself?

TM61 vs. The Authors of Pain (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Final)

This year’s Dusty Classic has been very unique, to say the least. With more twist and turns and surprises than last year, the tournament has seen the debut of Roderick Strong, unlikely teams that would have you removed from Reddit at the mere suggestion, and unfortunate stories of injuries on two separate performers…

Nevertheless, we’re here. Newcomer tag teams TM-61 and the Authors of Pain are to do battle in the finals. In one corner, there’s the world-renowned Australian duo of Shane Thorne and Nick Miller, formerly known as TMDK across the world, who are looking to add more prestige to their resume. In the other corner, there’s the seemingly unstoppable duo of monsters, under the management of Paul Ellering; Akam and Rezar. Get it? These two teams will battle until they have nothing left to capture the prestigious trophy…

Oh and also Paul Ellering will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage, because of reasons.

The Revival (c) vs. #DIY – 2-out-of-3 Falls Match for the NXT Tag Team Championship

Continuing the bitter rivalry between these two teams, originating a few months back after the team of Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano defeated current champions Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder in a non-title match. Since then, they collided for the titles at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II, with the Revival leaving as the top-guys.

After a beatdown on Ciampa from the Revival, #DIY were eager to dismantle their foes during the Dusty Classic… but couldn’t get their hands on the team due to a fake injury on the part of Scott Dawson. An obvious ploy, leading to the champs costing the challengers their match in the Classic’s semi-final round against the Authors of Pain, the grudge match was made.

The two teams shall finally clear the air on what NXT’s top tag team really is, in a vicious match for the championships.

Asuka (c) vs. Mickie James – Singles Match for the NXT Women’s Championship

Yeah, you read it right. 2016 gets even weirder once more, as Asuka faces a new challenger in the shape of former multiple-time Women’s and Divas Champion, the returning Mickie James. After Asuka literally cleared out the current women’s division in NXT, sending a majority of her challengers to the main roster out of fear, NXT GM William Regal went outside the company to look for a new challenger.

Mickie James’ career speaks for itself; a 6-time champion in WWE, capturing many other titles in various other companies, with a laundry list of victories over several former WWE performers. Let’s hope Asuka doesn’t seek outside interference from Thomas the Tank Engine.

Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Samoa Joe – Singles Match for the NXT Championship

Samoa Joe is celebrating his one-year anniversary of being in the NXT Championship picture, by attempting to regain it from NXT’s top star, the King of Strong Style – Shinsuke Nakamura. Both men have a massive history behind their names alone, let alone with each other.

Capturing the title from Joe at Brooklyn II, dislocating the Samoan’s jaw in the process, Nakamura cemented his status within the roster very quickly. Joe had a problem with this entire process, putting Nakamura on a bus out of Full Sail with a massive beat down. The bus came back a few weeks later, putting a stop to Joe destroying the remaining roster in Nakamura’s absence.

The two are the hardest hitters in the building this night, and we expect nothing less than a brutal encounter. Or else they’ll never go back to Canada ever again… until tomorrow.
